Sometimes, doubt creeps in, making us question whether we are competent, strong enough, or even worthy of the calling God has placed on our lives. But real confidence isn’t about having all the answers or relying on our own strength—it’s about knowing who we are in Christ and trusting in His perfect plan.
Confidence in How God Made You
One of the most powerful truths in Scripture is that we are created in the image of God. Genesis 1:27 (ESV) says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” That means you were designed with purpose. Every part of who you are—your strengths, your personality, and even the things you see as weaknesses—are all intentional.
When self-doubt takes over, we can hold on to the promise of Psalm 139:14 (ESV): “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” God doesn’t make mistakes. You are His masterpiece, created with unique gifts to bring glory to Him. When we embrace that truth, we can walk in confidence, knowing that we are valued and loved.
Leaning on God’s Strength
The world tells us to find confidence within ourselves, but the Bible teaches that true confidence comes from trusting in God. Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV) says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” This takes the pressure off of us. We don’t have to figure it all out—we just have to trust that God already has.
Paul understood this when he wrote Philippians 4:13 (ESV): “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Our confidence doesn’t have to come from our own abilities but from knowing that God is the one equipping us for what He has called us to do. When we stop relying on our own strength and start depending on Him, we find unshakable confidence.
Confidence Through Faith
Faith and confidence go hand in hand. Hebrews 11:1 (ESV) tells us, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Sometimes, we don’t feel capable. Sometimes, we don’t see how things will work out. But faith says, “I trust You, Lord, even when I don’t see the full picture.”
We can also hold on to Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV): “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” No matter what uncertainties we face, we can have confidence in knowing that God’s plan is always for our good.
Pushing Past Fear and Doubt
Even the most faithful believers have moments of insecurity, but over and over, God reminds us not to fear. Isaiah 41:10 (ESV) offers this encouragement:
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Fear and doubt don’t have the final say in our lives. When those thoughts try to take over, we need to replace them with truth. God is with us, strengthening us and upholding us. That means we can move forward in confidence, knowing we are never alone.
Confidence in Christ
At the end of the day, confidence isn’t about feeling fearless—it’s about knowing that God is with you no matter what. Romans 8:37 (ESV) reminds us, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
So, if you’ve been struggling with confidence, take heart. You are created by God, strengthened by Him, and called for a purpose. You don’t have to have all the answers—you just have to trust the One who does.
